Residentials

Here at Holbrook Primary School we give your children the opportunity to take part in two residentials.  The first is in Year 4 to either The Privett Centre situated between Alton and Petersfield, Hooke Court in Dorset or Minstead Study Centre in The New Forest and the second is in Year 6 to The Hampshire Mountain Centre in the Brecon Beacons National Park.  In 2016 Year 4 are going to Hooke Court in Dorset instead of The Privett Centre.  In 2017 Year 4 went to Minstead Study Centre.  In 2018 Year 4 are going to Fairthorne Manor in Botley.

For over 50 years, YMCA Fairthorne Manor school and group trips have provided opportunities for children and young people to learn in a safe and rewarding environment.

They use a wide variety of activity programmes to help develop life skills, stimulate learning and improve confidence.  Every year, they welcome, encourage and help develop over 12,000 children and young people at their beautiful 111 acre park and woodland site bordered by the River Hamble in Hampshire.

 

Minstead Study Centre

Minstead Residential Centre is in the heart of the New Forest.

The original house was once the local school house.  The centre is well equipped, with two dormitories, a shower room, dining room and a self-contained classroom.

Outside there is a beautiful garden, where many of the activities take place during the day.  The grounds have been designed with primary school in mind and there are many areas which provide excellent opportunities for education activities to take place.

During the visit the following areas of the curriculum may be covered:

  • Art/Craft
  • Science
  • Music
  • English
  • Story Telling

The staff at Minstead are very experienced and you may rest assured that your children will be well cared for.

Hooke Court

At Hooke Court they have been running residential trips for children for well over 20 years and have an exemplary safety record. Their centres are warm, welcoming and full of exciting new activities and experiences for your child to enjoy.

Located on the edge of a small village in the heart of rural West Dorset and set in 24 acres of mature grounds your child will be able to soak up the natural beauty of the countryside within the safe and secure environment of Hooke Court, Dorset.

 

 

The Privett Centre

The Privett Centre is situated in the quiet village of Privett, near Petersfield.  It offers a range of good facilities where young people can have a safe experience of adventure.

The main aims of the residential are:

  • To enable children to spend time in a different environment
  • To encourage the development of social skills and responsibility through living and working together
  • To encourage children to develop geographical and problem solving skills
  • To promote an interest in outdoor and adventurous activity, building on work carried out in the school environment
  • To really enjoy themselves

The Hampshire Mountain Centre

The Hampshire Mountain Centre occupies two sites, situated at in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park.  Argoed Lwyd is an outdoor activity centre that has been converted from a traditional 19th Century farmhouse.  The centre is set in almost an acre of ground and this offers many opportunities for problem solving activities and small-scale studies in the IT equipped study room.

The main aims of the residential are:

  • To enable the children to spend time in a different environment

  • To encourage the development of social skills and responsibility through living and working together

  • To encourage children to develop geographical and problem solving skills

  • To promote an interest in outdoor adventurous activity
